Day-by-Day / Week-by-Week
Days 0–2
Rest, elevate, and support (snug underwear). Ice as directed. Many can resume non-strenuous activity in ~48 hours.
Days 3–7
Light walking is fine if it feels OK. Skip sports, long drives, or lifting heavy objects; most guidance puts heavy activity on hold for ~1–2 weeks. nhs.ukhacw.nhs.uk
Around 1 Week
If incisions are comfortable and your clinician gives the OK, you can usually resume sex/ejaculation. Some clinics also suggest aiming for ~20 ejaculations before the PVSA to help clear remaining sperm. Continue contraception.
Weeks 2–3
Gradually reintroduce workouts, running, or heavier chores as tolerated and per your surgeon’s specific instructions. nhs.uk
Weeks 8–16: The Clearance Test
Your provider will schedule a post-vasectomy semen analysis (PVSA). You’re cleared only when the sample shows no sperm or rare non-motile sperm (<100,000/mL). Keep using birth control until you receive the “all clear.” American Urological Association
