Dr. Eric Giesler is committed to providing leading-edge, patient-centered care. He practices general urology with a special focus on urologic oncology, treating both men and women.
Dr. Giesler is deeply committed to men’s health, with a special focus on prostate cancer. Recognizing that every patient is unique, he tailors treatment plans using a wide range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options.
- He began performing state-of-the-art MRI–ultrasound fusion prostate biopsies in 2015.
- He has performed robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomies for more than a decade.
- He offers minimally invasive treatments, including high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and cryoablation of the prostate.
Dr. Giesler serves as part of Urology Austin’s Advanced Prostate Cancer Care Team along with his colleagues Dr. David Freidberg, Dr. Richard Garza and Dr. David Phillips. This team manages patients with prostate cancer recurrence after initial local therapy such as robotic prostatectomy or radiation. Care approaches include newer medical oncolytics (Xtandi, Zytiga, Erleada, Nubeqa, and Yonsa) and immunotherapies (Provenge).
Dr. Giesler also performs the in-office SpaceOAR procedure for men with prostate cancer who are preparing to undergo radiation therapy at Apex Cancer Care. SpaceOAR Hydrogel is inserted between the prostate and rectum as a protective measure during radiation.
Dr. Giesler has been recognized as a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly from 2019 to 2021. He was also named a Texas Rising Star by Texas Monthly in 2012, 2013, and 2014. In addition, he has been honored as a Top Doctor in Urology in the January editions of Austin Monthlyfrom 2021 through 2024.
Outside of work, Dr. Giesler enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. An avid runner, he has completed several marathons and enjoys tennis and paddleboarding.
